Performance analysis of distance metrics on the exploitation properties and convergence behaviour of the conventional firefly algorithm

The nature of the distance metric used to compare span between two fireflies in conventional firefly algorithm can significantly enhance exploitation properties and improve its convergence towards optimum solution. Therefore, this research proposes several variants based on different relations like Minkowski distance, Canberra Angular Cosine distance. To performance these variants, benchmark non-linear non-convex objective functions are solved under varying medium absorption coefficient attractiveness constant. It is observed from detail analysis results that provides optimal for almost all functions. Furthermore, importance real-world optimization problems with very large or small magnitude decision variables also presented by solving a practical hydro thermal scheduling problem. set parameters particular criterion may not always be better achieved measure length fireflies.
